Las Vegas Summer Vacation

My family and I recently returned from a vacation to Las Vegas, Nevada. As you might expect, Las Vegas in July is hot. In fact there were heat warnings every day of our visit there, with temperatures up to 47 degrees Celsius, or 116.6 degrees Fahrenheit.

I don’t tolerate excessive heat very well, but I was able to cope thanks to lots of sunblock, lots of water, a broad-rimmed hat, and ducking in and out of air-conditioned buildings whenever we walked the Strip.

Throughout my time there, I tried to capture photos that had some potential for a painting, and I feel I have a few with high potential.

My two sons walking up an embankment towards a sitting area at the Grand Canyon.
The rear view of the Hoover Dam. The line along the cliffs is where the water level used to be before the 23 year drought began.

Gardens at the Bellagio Hotel
The Colorado River flowing through the Grand Canyon.

For reasons I can’t explain, the photo I want to paint most right now is the one of my sons walking up the embankment towards the sitting area at the Grand Canyon. There’s just something about how the umbrellas are catching the light, and their curvy edge that is drawing me in.
